Project 1: Hurricane Relief

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund - GlobalGiving For my Front-End Development class, I made a high-fidelity prototype of a website for hurricane relief. I used Adobe Dreamweaver, CSS, and Javascript to make this mockup. Research on already-existing hurricane relief sites was done, and iterated the prototypes based on the observations made. Pages included a donation page, a news page where future hurricane news reports could be added, and an about us page. Coding included making a scrolling image on the front page and using a knowledge of information architecture to successfully organize the website and make it easily accessible.

The Context

Unfortunately, this was not a project I chose, rather, it was chosen for me. However, I consider myself to be a very empathetic person, so I took this in stride.

My first step was to design the website itself. As I am not normally a written-out planner (I see something in my head and charge straight ahead), I wasn't a big fan of this part of the project. Despite that, I did make an honest attempt at mapping out a website. To help me with this, I looked at many different websites and tried to simulate them as best as possible. That included a news page, a video page, and a place where you could make donations.
